  • Waterproof FPV Drone is full of sensitive electronics and components. It’s important to ensure they do not get wet or exposed to moisture, to ensure reliability and peace of mind. Given the lightweight nature of drone frames, it’s easy to accidently get your FC exposed to a tiny drop of rain or some dew when landing. By coating the main components with a waterproofing component, you can even provide some protection against an awful crash landing in the water. There are various ways to protect the electronics from getting exposed to water, but the best way is to use a brush on coating. This will allow you to still solder if you need to make changes, but provides an ingress protection against moisture. It won’t give you complete invincibility against moisture, rain or snow, but it may mean extra protection against any shorts or strange effects if a drop does find its way onto your flight controller. Which Components to Waterproof Flight Controllers, ESCs, and VTX are a no-brainer for conformal coating. Because there’s no moving parts, these parts can easily be coated without any worries. Because Silicone conformal coating is designed to work in high temperature environments, you don’t…

  • Unlock the secrets of mini quad FPV Drone motors! We'll explore key factors to consider when selecting the optimal motor for your desired performance, whether you're a racing enthusiast, freestyle fanatic, or aerial photographer. How Motors Generate Torque Brushless motors generate torque through the interaction of permanent magnets on the rotor and electromagnets on the stator. Stronger magnetic fields, larger contact areas, and larger motor diameters all contribute to higher torque output. More descriptive: The magic behind brushless motor torque lies in the interplay between the rotor's permanent magnets and the stator's electromagnets. The strength of the magnetic field (flux density), the surface area where these fields interact, and the motor's diameter all play crucial roles. A stronger magnetic field, a larger contact area, and a wider diameter all translate to a greater force acting on the motor shaft, resulting in increased torque. More technical: Torque generation in brushless motors is governed by the following key factors: Magnetic flux density: A stronger magnetic field between the rotor and stator translates to a greater force. Stator volume: This directly affects the contact area between the magnetic fields, influencing the resulting force. Motor radius: The distance from the center of the shaft to the outer…

  • So you're diving into the exciting world of FPV drones, but the technical jargon can be overwhelming. What's the difference between a BNF and an RTF? Should you build your own drone or buy pre-assembled? Fear not, aspiring pilot! This guide will decipher the drone lingo and help you make an informed decision. The Acronym Breakdown: RTF (Ready-to-Fly): This kit lives up to its name - everything you need to take to the skies is included. Think drone, transmitter, receiver, battery, charger, and sometimes even extras like propellers and spare parts. It's the grab-and-go option for beginners. BNF (Bind-and-Fly): Similar to RTF, but it skips the transmitter (you need to provide your own and "bind" it to the receiver). Battery and charger might also be absent depending on the kit. Think of it as RTF minus the controller. PNP (Plug-and-Play): This kit requires more assembly. You'll need to install the motor, servos, and ESC (electronic speed controller) yourself. Programming them to work together adds another layer of complexity. Battery and charger are usually not included. This option appeals to those who want some customization without starting from scratch. Choosing Your Path: The best option depends on your experience level and preferences: Beginner: RTF is your friend. Easy setup, instant gratification, and less risk of messing things up. Intermediate: BNF or PNP offer a…

  • This guide gives pilots a crash course on FPV drones. It includes sections on the three main types of FPV drones—racing drones, cinematic FPV drones, and freestyles drones—as well as our list of the top five ready-to-fly drones for FPV racing. What Are FPV Drones? Flying an FPV (first person view) drone is an otherworldly experience. Before now, only in movies and video games could most people experience a bird’s-eye view while racing through obstacles at breakneck speeds. But thanks to FPV quadcopters, hexacopters, and other multirotors, anyone with enough flying skill to maneuver a drone can have this experience. Want to jump around within this guide? Here’s a menu to the main sections: Racing Drones Cinematic FPV Drones Freestyle Drones FPV Drones Glossary Note: Because racing drones are some of the most popular FPV drones out there, we’ve devoted individual sections of this guide to our picks for the top five FPV racing drones on the market. Here are links to each one in the guide in case you’d like to jump directly to see them: EMAX Hawk Pro FPV Drone Walkera F210 3D Edition Racing Drone APEX VR70 FPV Drone BETAFPV Cetus Pro FPV Drone The DJI FPV…

  • For beginners, the number of flight controllers (or FCs for short) for FPV drones can be overwhelming. This guide explains all the features and differences, and highlights important factors to consider when choosing a mini quad FC. What is a quadcopter flight controller The flight controller (aka FC) is the brain of the aircraft. It is a circuit board with a variety of sensors that detect the motion of the drone as well as user commands, and then uses that data to control the speed of the motors (motors) in order to make the craft move as instructe Almost all flight controllers have basic sensors such as Gyroscopes (Gyro for short) and Accelerometers (Acc for short). Some FCs include more advanced sensors such as barometers (air pressure sensors) and magnetometers (compasses) FCs are also hubs for other peripherals such as GPS, LEDs, sonar sensors, and more. FPV drone flight controllers are evolving rapidly: becoming smaller, integrating more functions, and using better processors and hardware. Evolution of Controllers - Flight Controller Dimensions (Mounting Hole Pitch), MCU and Functionality FC connection This is a sample wiring diagram to connect components in a drone to a flight controller. • No longer are drones just for flying in your backyard or up and down your street. Since 2012, the recreational drone arena has grown from a slow boil to a boiling cauldron. In the last year, a lot of schools have started drone clubs and drone racing teams. Purdue University conducted a Collegiate Drone Race last spring, and since then, the sport has continued to grow. FLYING IN FIRST PERSON If you're new to racing, here's the gist: pilots race their drones around a course using First Person View (FPV) goggles. Each racing drone is equipped with a small video camera and transmitters, so pilots can watch in first-person as their drone speeds around the track. These young men and women pilot their drones at speeds that can exceed 75 MPH solely by watching the live video from the drone via FPV goggles. Sound like fun? It's easy to bring this new sport to your own school by starting a drone racing team. Here's what you'll need RACING DRONES First step: get racing drones! A school will need between 4 and 8 of them depending on the size of the school team. These drones are different from most drones you…
